Michael "Mick" Shipman (b. 1950) is a fictional character in the television series Gavin & Stacey. He is portrayed by Larry Lamb.

Mick is fifty-seven at the start of the series, living with his wife, Pam, and his son, Gavin, in Billericay, Essex. After the birth of their only child, he and Pam married in 1981. He is good friends with Smithy and the Sutcliffes, Dawn and Pete. By the end of series 3, he is just residing with Pam, who are expecting their first grandchild. It is revealed in the 2019 Christmas Special that he has three grandchildren, Harri, Megan and Caitlin.

Characterisation

Mick is Gavin's father. He is often mistaken to be 53 and is a down-to-earth bloke, like his son. He's happy with his life — running his own company, playing golf and going to the pub quiz every Tuesday. He is something of a calming influence on his wife, Pam.

In Series 2 Mick was briefly a local celebrity after finding the charred body of a woman on his company's premises. The story was broadcast on BBC News, however Mick only appeared on screen for a matter of seconds, much to the disappointment of everybody, especially Bryn.
